Generally, we’re talking about a log cabin here, a rectangular building with nine foot (outside) walls and conventional log beam roof structure, skinned with sheet metal. But I’ll consider any ideas and variations on that theme that you might imagine. If I don’t think it’s a good building practice, I’ll tell you, up front. Because, I’m nothing, if not an up-front kind of guy. When you decide what you want me to build, I’ll tell you what that will cost. And that’s all you will pay. You’ll pay 1/3 down when we seal the deal; I’ll expect another 1/3 when I have the building half finished on my site and the remaining third is due and payable when I’m ready to deliver to your site.
I prefer to be paid in cash, if possible. I’m a log cabin builder, and independent contractor and I don’t have an office manager or an accountant, so the less paperwork I generate, the happier everyone, you, me and the government will be. In fact, I’ll pay the GST, if you pay for your cabin in cash. That’s $1400 on a 16 x 24 cabin.
You decide what your cabin will look like. The basic house is built from peeled logs. I can power plane them for a little extra, if you want the light coloured look. Some people prefer that, others like the darker colour. Over the years, the peeled log look has really grown on me, but it’s your house and I want it to be just what you want.
I can do carpentry, like install your windows and doors, build a wall here or there, but I’d rather you hired your own trades. I don’t do electricity or plumbing, or carpet or floor tiles. But there’s lots of folks out there that do and will do a fine job for you.
I can build in the winter and deliver your home to you in the spring. Obviously, if it takes me four months to finish a building, I only build three or four a year. I work alone for the most part, bringing in extra help only when I need it.
I’ve been building log homes for fine folks in this part of the world for nearly four decades. I can provide a glowing statement from every one of my customers.
